School students can now receive free tutoring help online at their library or in their homes, through an innovative new service just introduced by the Glen Innes Severn Public & TAFE Library in association with Tutoring Australasia. yourtutor is a unique learning service that connects students via the Internet to qualified, expert tutors for individual conversations about homework, assignments, exam preparation and study questions.
Tutors are certified teachers, professional tutors, post graduates and advanced undergraduates from Australian universities. They can review specific homework and assignment questions with students on line, using features like controlled chat, an interactive white board and shared web browsing. Students use yourtutor because it fits in with their online lives. It’s immediate and anonymous, and that means kids are comfortable asking questions they might not ask in class.
The service is also ideal for busy parents who are unable to assist their children with homework each night. For more information about this service please contact the Library on 6730 2600.

We are madly getting ready for this year’s Summer Reading Club. Summer Reading Club is open to primary school children & runs from the 12 December to 24 January culminating in a party on the 27th January. Summer Reading Club is designed to encourage children to keep reading over the long summer holidays, so when they return to school their literacy levels are at the same level as when they finish school before christmas.
